Movie Review: Fantastic Four (2015)

Fantastic Four 2015 poster.jpgFantastic Four (2015)

Directed: Josh Trank

So I finally got to see the latest Fantastic Four movie, and I was pleasantly surprised, I liked it, I don't know why people hated it so much. It does have some short comings, but in general, I do think it's a much better movie than the other two FF movies, on a story level, It's much more centered  around the Ultimate series of the Fantastic Four which has a more serious and  darker tone in general. It's sort of funny that in the Blu Ray extras of the making of the movie everyone seems to go out of their way in not mentioning the Ultimate Fantastic Four influences on this movie.

Characters:
Heroes:
·         Reed Richard/Mr. Fantastic (Miles Teller): Mile plays a more introverted Richards that has issues socializing, relying on his best bud Ben Grim to get things done. Now what I really liked is how the movie depicts that Reed has some issues with his powers, he doesn't dominate them right away, he actually end up building a special suit to control his stretching, that was a good idea.
·         Ben Grim/The Thing (Jamie Bell): The level of tragedy for the Thing is just too high in this movie, the guy is just miserable and the production didn't even give him pants, the dude has no dignity, they have forgotten that the Thing always has some level of optimism in him. But visually the Thing looks much better than the previous one, even though he doesn't have pants.
·         Johnny Storm/Human Torch ( Micheal B Jordan): It was a smart idea for the production to change the Storm's family dynamic making Johnny and his Father Franklin African-Americans, just adds some interesting and new ingredients to the Story, but the best idea was not to compete with Chris Evan's Human Torch from the other FF movies which was the best part of those movies. Jordan's Torch has a good evolution as a Character during the movie and has a lot to prove to his father.
·         Sue Storm/Invisible Woman ( Kate Mara): She's the adoptive daughter of Franklin Storm, at moments the character is just too serious, but it's a nice detail that using her powers takes a lot out of her, plus its cool to see that someone remembered that Sue can make other things other than her self invisible.
Villains:
·         Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom (Tony Kebbel): I really like the Doom in this movie, when he's totally transformed he's pretty hardcore and esthetically he's very interesting.

 Sporting Cast:
·         Dr. Franklin Storm ( Reg E Cathey): Franklin is sort of the glue of the movie he's the one that brings the team together.

Movie Plot Summary:
·         I'm not going to go into the plot, there isn't much of it, I don't want to spoil the whole thing, but the movie is about how the FF gets their powers and learn how to deal with them, basically, and the movie has what you need for an FF story  science, exploration and Doom.

The Bad:
·         The movie is a little slow, the film needs a little more action.
·         The movie seems to take itself too seriously at moments.
What's wrong with Sue's hair? it changes colors during the movie

The Good:
·         The characterizations in general are pretty good.
·         Planet Zero/the Negative zone is pretty cool.
·         When the S&%$ hit the fan finally and Doom appears it freaking cool.

Rating: 6/10
